Real Talk...

Today is March 8, which is International Women's Day. This is a day to celebrate women and bring awareness to the struggles we face in this world. But one issue that is often considered taboo is women's mental health. There are so many women out there who struggle with anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders... The list goes on and on.

We have an innate need to help others, but when it comes to helping ourselves, we struggle. There are so many people who rely on us that we don't feel like we can take a break to recharge, unwind, relax. We are spinning our wheels to make sure everyone else has what they need, and we constantly put ourselves last. And unfortunately, that is what society makes us think we have to do to be loved. We have to be "yes" girls, or we will never get ahead in life. But that simply isn't true. We have to learn to take care of ourselves, or eventually, we will have a breakdown and see everything we had worked so hard for crumble.

The weight of the world isn't on our shoulders. We are not responsible for other people's actions. And if we work harder and don't ask for help, that isn't going to make people love us more. We do not need to be everything to everyone. And as hard as that is to realize, once we do, our quality of life is so much better.

So, on this day, I want you to put yourself first. Do something that makes you happy. Read that book, watch that TV show, take a bath and relax. Whatever it is that you normally don't allow yourself the time to do, I want you to start now. Whatever else is going on in the world will still be happening after your break. We are all entitled to some "me" time, and that doesn't make us selfish.

I wish you a beautiful day full of love and happiness.
